Reading about FBI raids of protesters’ houses in Minnesota.
Getting my hair cut. Adding some fun color too. Whee.
I thought it looked like rain. Hello fall.

bourbon peach hand pies | smitten kitchen →
The recipe I used for my Pie-Off entry. Yummy. Saved By: Audrey Eschright | View Details | Give Thanks Tags: mmmpie, pie, recipe, peaches
Had a fun time eating #mmmpie. Thanks @lelonopo @radiogretchen @lizzycaston.
Found a ride with my brother. (Who, alas, will probably not be bringing a pie of his own).
Resisting the urge to nibble on my pie entry pre-contest (I made hand pies; it would be easy). Instead having leftover pizza.
Lots of people here for #mmmpie.
Thinking I may need alternate #mmpie transportation plans. Anyone driving from SE and willing to give me a ride?
Getting started on my pie entry.
Everything smells like basil. Mmm.
Farmers market. Shopping for pie ingredients.
Feeling too lazy to add east burn to shizzow. Especially since I’m typing on my phone.
Trying to figure out a strategy for the Platial scavenger hunt. 6+ items per photo? Only doing bonus items to start?
As a woman, I'm offended. →
As a woman, I’m offended by John McCain’s decision to select Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate. It is clear that the decision is primarily driven by politics, by the belief that to get…
Women as Interchangeable Parts →
I think that McCain has gone soft as a grape in his head. Why else would he pick an unknown from a state that’s already securely red? And one who is only going to appeal to people already voting for…
Science Friday is talking about childhood vaccine concerns. Things like this make me want to throttle people.
Where do these anti-science mindsets come from? It’s like fundamentalism.
Scheduling appointments. I need a hair cut, Mudshark needs to go to the vet (shh don’t tell him yet).
Watching C-Span while listening to NPR. The lips, they do not match the sound, like a poorly dubbed movie.
Platial is doing a Nearby (iPhone app) scavenger hunt this weekend: http://platial.com/laborday
Skipping the LoT happy hour tonight. Need more downtime this week.
Didn’t finish what I was working on, but at least I have an interface. I guess that’ll do for today.
Watching the DNC and wishing I could make everyone I know read Interface. Best book for an election year.
The TSA Told You That Liquids Are Dangerous →
So weird: A plane was forced to land when a passenger had an extreme allergic reaction to a leaking jar of mushroom soup, it was revealed today. The soup fell on the man from an overhead locker…
Peter is working on the food cart map data now. Yay!
I’ve been trying to make a list of all my projects, current and on hold. Still certain I’ve forgotten a few things.
First assistant task: fixing the vacuum cleaner (regular one, not the roomba) so the office can be made habitable. Cats are hard on things.
Finally remembered to unpack the box with my copy of More Big Girl Knits, and the sample sweater, which I’m giving to my mom.
Ordering three more packages of Critter Cord after discovering that the printer isn’t working because the power and usb cables were chewed.
Good wherecamp planning meeting tonight. Still lots to do, but we’re getting there.

It’s depressing that this conversation is still at “the fashion industry hates women who don’t match a narrow ideal”—i.e. most of us. The problem has been acknowledged, over and…

WhereCamp PDX planning meeting tomorrow night, 7pm at Produce Row.
Whoa. Seriously pornographic spam in the wherecamp-pdx mailing list welcome message. Should regular list members be able to edit that?
Reading #lostring wrap-up things. The part I participated in was much fun.
Wondering if I can bend time and space to make it to Code n Splode on time.
Asked my brother to come work as my assistant part-time while he’s job hunting. My home and side-project todo list is too long.
Thinking about Superstruct and what my world will look like in 2019: http://www.iftf.org/node/2098
I started to think maybe I’d do Rails Rumble this year, but it’s the same weekend we’re looking at for WhereCamp. Ah well.
Power Grid Limits Potential of Renewable Energy →
The dirty secret of clean energy is that while generating it is getting easier, moving it to market is not.
Dionysus and the Amethyst Initiative →
Across the United States, dozens of higher education leaders have signed on to the Amethyst Initiative. It’s a fascinating approach. The signers aren’t committing to a stance, but rather asking…
Aug 28, 2008: Legion of Tech Happy Hour Meetup at... →
These are super informal meetups where we hang out, talk about geeky stuff (wikis, open source, new technologies, openid, …), and wind down with like-minded people over beverages.

Finally home. So tired.
Hello Seattle. I wish I could stop and say hi instead of crawling through traffic.
Stuck at border station while they search the car.
Grouchy. We’ve been in line, in the car, for over an hour. I can see the us…
We’re cleared, but there’s a “situation” outside. Tired. Want lunch.
